Neck braces

An essential accessory for neck protection

The karting neck brace, also known as a neck collar, is a piece of protective gear designed to provide additional support for the neck and cervical spine. Worn with a helmet, it helps limit the range of head movement in the event of a sudden movement or impact, while ensuring the driver’s comfort on the track.

Whether flexible or rigid, for adults, children, or young drivers, the choice of neck protection depends largely on body type, the desired level of support, and the specific racing discipline.

Why Wear a Neck Brace or Neck Guard When Karting?

The karting neck brace, also known as a neck collar, is a supplementary piece of protective gear designedto provide support for the driver’s neck.

In the event of a sudden movement or impact, its design is specifically intended to limit certain movements of the head and neck. There are different types of neck protectors, ranging from flexible neck braces to more structured models, which should be chosen based on the driver’s body type and the desired level of support.

How do you choose the right karting neck brace for your specific needs?

The choice depends mainly on the driver’s body type, the level of support desired, and how often it will be used.

A flexible neck brace is a simple solution for providing support and comfort around the neck. More structured or rigid neck protectors offer a different design for riders seeking greater support.

In any case, the neck brace must be properly adjusted and allow the rider to maintain the range of motion necessary for riding once all of their gear is on.

What criteria should you consider when choosing a comfortable neck brace?

A good neck brace must, above all, be adapted to the rider’s body type. Check its size, how well it fits around the neck, its weight, and its adjustment or closure system, if it has one.

Comfort is also essential: the protective gear should not create any uncomfortable pressure points or hinder the movements necessary for riding. Also check how it fits with your helmet and any other protective gear you’re wearing to ensure the entire setup remains comfortable once in place.

What is the difference between a soft neck brace and a rigid neck brace?

A soft neck brace features a flexible, padded design that wraps around the neck, designed to combine support, comfort, and freedom of movement. A rigid cervical brace is based on a more elaborate structure, designedto provide greater support and control certain head and neck movements.

The choice does not depend solely on the materials used: you should also consider the overall design of the protective gear, its ergonomics, weight, fit, and the desired level of support.

ITAKAshop currently offers both types of protection, including flexible BOX'S neck braces and the rigid EVS R4 neck brace.

How do you choose the right size neck brace for a child or young rider?

For a child, it’s important to choose a neck brace that fits their body type rather than using an adult model that’s too large. A neck brace that is the wrong size may shift or become uncomfortable once the helmet is worn.

The neck brace must fit properly while allowing the young rider to maintain the range of motion needed for riding. Always check the manufacturer’s specifications: the ITAKAshop lineup includes sizes for children, juniors, and adults.

Is a karting neck brace required for competition?

In France, FFSA Regulation 2026 requires the use of a neck brace in the Mini Kart, Minime, Cadet, and MINI 60 categories. Its use is strongly recommended in the other categories.
